Boat Tour to the 3 Islands from Venice: Murano - Burano - Torcello with Onboard Guide

Set sail from Venice for a full-day tour exploring the beautiful islands of Murano, Burano, and Torcello.
Departure can be from San Marco - Pontile Cornoldi.

Our first stop is Murano: here, you will discover why this island is world-famous for glassmaking. You will visit a local furnace and watch a master glassmaker at work during a live demonstration.
Overall, you will have about one hour of free time on the island to browse the shops and buy unique glass souvenirs.

Next, we head to Burano, famous for its ancient lace-making tradition and its colorful houses. Here you will have about two hours of free time to enjoy a meal, try typical Venetian snacks or a gelato at one of the many bars on the island. If you wish, our ticket allows free entry to the Lace Museum (ask your guide).

Finally, from Burano, we move to Torcello, the oldest settlement in the lagoon. Here you will have about one hour to explore independently, with the option to visit the Basilica of Santa Maria Assunta and admire its famous Veneto-Byzantine mosaics (entrance ticket not included).

Return to San Marco is scheduled in the late afternoon.

Escursione ben organizzata. Abbiamo apprezzato soprattutto la puntualità e la cortesia del personale. Interessanti le spiegazioni fornite sulle imbarcazioni da parte della guida.
Nessuna difficoltà nella prenotazione e nel trovare il posto di imbarco, benché non siamo pratici di Venezia.
Lo consiglierei agli amici.

The most impressive feature of the tour for me was the guide. He provided detailed information on the islands and on the logistics of the tour in five languages: Italian, English, French, German, and Spanish.

The first stop is Murano, famous for its glass products. Passengers leave the boat and enter directly into a theater where an expert glassblower demonstrates his skills by fashioning molten glass into finished pieces. After that, passengers are free to wander through the town for an hour or so until the boat departs for Burano. The town is filled with shops that sell glass products. I confess that I was more impressed with the process of creating these pieces than I was with the pieces themselves. Decorations tend to be brash, brightly colored, but unrefined. If you like Dale Chihuly, you'll like Murano glass.

I thought that Burano, known for its lace products, was more interesting. As with Murano, there are places where you can watch a craft-person at work, although these are in shops rather than in an amphitheater. The variety of productions and the high quality of the work are worth seeing.

Knowing what I know now, I would skip the third island, Torcello. After leaving the boat, passengers walk a long way in the hot sun on a stone path until they reach the center of town, which consists of an old church and some tired-looking buildings. There is a shade-covered outdoor restaurant along the way. Many passengers chose to spend their time there, which may have been the better decision in light of the summer heat and the lack of any significant attraction in the center of the island.
